ELECTRONIC PUBLICATIONS: A Study of Variation in Chicozapote (Manilkara zapota)

Uses

Ornamental Use

The chicozapote is a common garden plant in many tropical areas of the world, where it is grown for the edible fruit, but in Florida, the primary use of the tree is ornamental. Some problems have been encountered using this tree in landscaping, because it grows too large for most home gardens. Ogden and Campbell (1980) concluded that wild dilly (Manilkara emarginata) could be used as a dwarfing rootstock. 'Tikal' is one of the best cultivars for ornamental use (Campbell et al. 1987).
