WETLANDS OF THE YUCATAN PENINSULA

The protected aquatic environment of the region provides a continuity of an outstanding set of wetland ecosystems, of international importance, from Rio Lagartos in Yucatan to El Eden . The continental portion of the bioregion has a continuous area of more than 500,000 acres of well conserved forests and savannas. The region is considered one of the most biodiverse of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is favorite place for a great number of migratory birds. It is a place rich in scenic, ecoturistic and archaeological sites.
